Both are brave efforts that are quite easy on the ears, but ultimately fail to make a lasting. Butterflies were decorated with all sorts of electronic sounds that are most apparent in the dancey Butterfly or the autotune-fueled Colony. Acclaim was reserved for the tracks "Hello, World!" and "Parade", with the former noted for its "complicated melody" on which vocalist Motoo Fujiwara "really shine", and the latter for its "captivating piano melody" with an "explosive climax". BUMP OF CHICKEN released their second latest album, orbital period, on December 19, 2007.Their latest album is 'present from you', released on June, 18, 2008. Bump of Chicken’s effort to tap into the genre starts subtly with 2014’s RAY, but they never went all out until this 8th album. It was released in two versions the first, solely featuring the band, was uploaded to YouTube on March. Taylor also wrote that with the track "Butterfly", the band "blending" EDM into their sound 2016 feels "dated", and that other Japanese bands "are getting better results" when doing so. Ray is a song by Japanese rock band BUMP OF CHICKEN.

Writing for The Japan Times, Ronald Taylor called Butterflies "nothing new", comparing it to the sound of the band's previous album, 2014's Ray, in that it is "like a giant retread of its usual alternative rock".
